The Ocean Is Where I Belong

Connect to your inner self with freediving and scuba diving

Free diving and scuba diving have been explained as more than just a sport, more than just a way to enjoy the ocean, more than just another adventure thrill you can say you’ve tried.

"The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever". — Jacques-Yves Cousteau

For those who truly love and embrace the sports of freediving or scuba diving, their time underwater is a way to understand who they are as human beings. As the legendary oceanographer Sylvia Earle once said: “With every drop of water you drink, every breath you take, you’re connected to the sea. No matter where on Earth you live.”

What does that mean, to be connected to the sea? Wallace J. Nichols, author of Blue Mind, explains it this way: “Water quiets all the noise, all the distractions, and connects you to your own thoughts.”

Whether you are a scuba diver or free diver, being underwater, truly connected to the ocean in that moment, is an intensely profound and extraordinary experience. You are in a place where you’re in perfect harmony with planet ocean.

At Cressi, we believe that inner peace is deeply personal and can only be defined by you.

"The ocean makes me feel really small and it makes me put my whole life into perspective… it humbles you and makes you feel almost like you’ve been baptized. I feel born again when I get out of the ocean". ― Beyoncé Knowles

Both scuba diving and freediving require a deep state of calm and the ability to push out distracting thoughts while staying mentally focused. To achieve the deeply meditative inner peace of being underwater, to disconnect from all the distractions of your topside world — the deadlines, the constant noise and rush, the devices, email and social media updates — isn’t only reserved for those divers who are intensely focused on pushing their limits. You don’t have to set a world record on a single lungful of air or push beyond the limits of recreational diving with a scuba tank strapped to your back to explore the boundaries of human potential — your human potential, whatever that may be.

Connecting to your inner self requires body, mind, and spirit to be aligned, but that is not possible when you are surrounded by the swirling pressures of everyday life. The journey to finding that sweet spot of meditative inner peace is similar to a spiritual journey. There’s a tranquility that comes from meeting the ocean on its terms, not yours.

It begins when we find a community of like-minded divers, which is why Cressi supports its community of Lifestyle Ambassadors.

At Cressi, we understand that you are on a journey to discover not only the ocean but also your inner self.

Whether you are freediving or scubadiving, it is a journey that is centered on your breathing and inner calm. It is a journey that requires you to balance your mind, body and spirit. You may be exploring the unknown or merely a place you’ve never been before. But above all, you are undertaking an inner journey.

Cressi is more than the sum of the products it sells. Yes, you will find a complete range of freediving, scuba diving, spearfishing and swimming gear to help you pursue your personal passion. But just as you are connecting to the sea and your inner self, we at Cressi are, too.

From the company’s humble beginnings in the Liguria region of Italy, a place nestled along the shores of the Mediterranean, whose people have a deeply felt love for, understanding of, and connection to the sea, Cressi embarked on a journey to help others make that same connection. It is at the heart of our philosophy and our deeply felt mission.
